What is Branding and How Do You Do It?

What is branding? Many people ask this question, but not everyone has a clear answer. Branding is the process of creating a unique identity for your business. This includes things like your logo, a strong business name, your color scheme, your tagline, and your overall aesthetic. Your goal is to make sure that everything about your brand is consistent and that it reflects the values of your business and makes you memorable. So, how do you go about branding your business? In this blog post, we will discuss the branding process and give you some tips on how to create a branding strategy that works for you!

Key elements of branding

1º Your logo

Your logo is one of the first things that people will see when they come across your brand, so it’s important that it makes a good impression. Make sure that your logo is simple and easy to remember. You want people to be able to see it and immediately think of your brand.

Let’s take a look at an example of a good and bad logo.

Good logo:

The Nike swoosh is one of the most recognizable logos in the world. It’s simple and easy to remember and immediately brings to mind the Nike brand.

Bad logo:

This logo is confusing and difficult to read. It’s not something that people are going to remember or be able to easily associate with your brand.

2º Your business name

This is what people will see on your website, social media, and marketing materials. It’s important that your business name is catchy and easy to remember. It should also be reflective of the values of your brand. Let’s look at some examples of good and bad business names.

Examples of bad business names:

  • Bob’s Auto Repair

  • Joe’s Plumbing

  • Sarah’s Cleaning Services

These names are forgettable and don’t say anything about the values of the businesses. Now, let’s take a look at some examples of good business names.

Examples of good business names:

  • Mr. Sparky (electrician)

  • Blue Frog Plumbing (plumbing)

  • The Cleaning Authority (cleaning)

These names are creative and memorable, and they tell you what the businesses do and what their values are.

3º Your color scheme

Your colors should be consistent across all platforms and reflect the overall tone of your brand. For example, if you’re branding yourself as a fun and friendly company, you might want to use bright, cheerful colors like yellow or green. But if you’re branding yourself as a more serious company, you might want to use colors like blue or black.

When we talk about color schemes, we’re also talking about color psychology. What is color psychology? It’s the study of how colors affect our emotions and behavior. Different colors can evoke different feelings in people. For example, blue is often associated with trustworthiness and calmness, while red is associated with energy and excitement.

4º Your tagline

It should be short, catchy, and reflective of your brand’s values. It’s important to choose a tagline that will resonate with your target audience. For example, if you’re branding yourself as a company that provides high-quality, affordable products, your tagline might be “The best quality for the best price.”

5º Your overall aesthetic

This includes things like the design of your website, your social media posts, and your marketing materials. Everything should be consistent and reflect the overall tone of your brand. For example, if you’re branding yourself as a luxury brand, your website should have a sleek, modern design with luxurious-looking photos. If you’re branding yourself as a laid-back, carefree brand, your website and social media posts should have a more casual feel.

Now that we’ve gone over what branding is and what it includes let’s talk about how to create a branding strategy.

Who are you trying to reach with your branding? Once you know who you’re targeting, you can start to tailor your branding to appeal to them.
